Hello all, back again. In this entry I will provide an update on the progress of The Long Commute – my business and finance niche blog. I have always had an interest in finance, investing and business creation. I studies business as an undergraduate and went on to study Global Operations and Logistics as an MSc. This coupled with the businesses I am working on – gives me a way to share what I learn along the way.
A bit of background into this website. The site was created as my first ever wordpress site way back in 2017. At the time I started to write content on the finance topics that I was studying and learning in my professional life. To say the least, I never stook to it and moved onto the next thing. Well here is the start of where I bring it life for the first time. With the skills that I have gathered over the years. So let’s dive in with the update.
The Long Commute – February Update
This month I carried out several changes to the finance niche blog. In this section I will review the changes and how I want to expand on the site in the coming months.
Fresh Content Creation
I have added another 4 articles to this blog this month. These will be scheduled to go out every week and I will continue to do this over the 12 months or so. The goal will be to check back in after three months and tell you how the google console and analytics are looking for the site.
Transfer of Content
I have completed the assimilation of the articles from my personal blog to The Long Commute. I chose to move over those articles in the Intriguing Insights section of my personal blog. This is because they aligned mroe with the niche on this site. The goal is to ensure that we establish EAT with the content we produce on this site. Considering that Finance is a YMYL topic this will be a longer term project. However, I am happy to continue writing with slow progress on this one as I find the topic interesting. I always find myself reading up about business and finance topics – long after I finished my studies at university.
SEO Optimisation
This month I have taken several pages of the site including, the home page and all the blog content to ensure that it is optimised for search engines. This including updating alt text and meta data for the content that had been moved. I also ensured that the articles that were already in Google were successfully redirected to the new site – The Long Commute.
Video Creation
Last month I included a challenge for myself to add video content to the website. I have successfully managed to create two videos for the site. The first is the “4 Steps to Build Wealth” and the second video was “How to Conduct a SWOT Analysis“.
The idea is to continue adding to the Youtube using the content I have already written on the site. These videos will then be embedded into the relevant article adding further value to the reader. The Wealth Building video I thought would add extra value and visual impact on the front page – so I have placed it accordingly.
Monetisation Strategy
Okay so I had a think about how I would monetise this website and here is what I have come up with so far:
Affiliate Marketing
Partner with financial institutions, investment platforms, self-development courses, and productivity tools through affiliate programs. Promote products and services that align with your blog’s content and earn a commission for every sale or referral generated through your affiliate links.
Digital Products
Create and sell digital products such as e-books, online courses, and downloadable resources on topics related to finance, investing, personal development, and productivity. Leverage your expertise and unique insights to offer valuable content that resonates with your audience and provides actionable guidance.
Membership or Subscription Model
Offer premium content, exclusive resources, and member-only perks through a subscription-based model. Provide access to in-depth guides, expert interviews, live Q&A sessions, and private communities to members who subscribe to your blog’s premium tier.
Product Recommendations
Curate a selection of recommended products, books, tools, and resources that align with your blog’s content and resonate with your audience. Share honest reviews, recommendations, and product comparisons to help your readers make informed purchasing decisions while earning affiliate commissions or referral fees.
Brand Partnerships and Sponsorships
Collaborate with brands, companies, or influencers in the finance, self-development, and lifestyle space on sponsored content, brand partnerships, or co-branded campaigns. Create engaging content, contests, or promotions that promote brand awareness, drive engagement, and provide value to your audience while generating revenue through sponsored collaborations.
These of course fall alongside any ad revenue that I may recieve in the future from the site. But this is an income stream that is less reliable and as such I have mot included in the list. The ads that I place on the site will be limited as I want to go for the big fish – especially in a niche that has such high cost per click for advertisers.
Conclusion
In this February update for The Long Commute – the site has progress nicely. Next month I will seek to add another four article to go out every Friday. I will also look to schedule a video every week and monitor the progress.
For any future update I will include the analytics we are seeing for the site and how we seek to improve any of the findings we discover.
Till the next update. Thanks for reading.
